When NASA was founded, it was mainly about aviation. The Second World War and the Cold War eventually led to the founding of its successor agency NASA. Under the presidency of John F. Kennedy, a moon landing was defined as the goal — achieved in 1969. After 1972 there were no more manned missions to the moon; subsequent years were shaped by unmanned missions for cost reasons. Missions to Mars will shape the future of space travel, with the International Space Station ISS as the basis for practising long-term stays in space. This documentary explains these projects and simulates their processes in animations for deeper insight. Inter-Pathé production.
